SAMSA Under 9 Meter – Skippers course

This license qualifies you for the National Day Skipper Certificate of Competence, which is issued by SAMSA.

Very Important:

To get your license, the following needs to be handed to the examiner on the day of the course:

  • 3 x colour ID Photos with white background and no glasses to be worn (with your name on the back of each photo)
  • Original Certified Copy of ID or Passport not older than 3 months (Driver’s License NOT accepted)
  • SAMSA Doctor’s Certificate on prescribed form
  • Skipper Log (Form filled in and signed)
  • A minimum of 25 hours at sea for 1nm and 15nm (crewing or helming)

Should paperwork and requirements not be complete on the day of the course, no interim certificate will be issued.

Once course has been completed

Please note that only the interim skipper’s certificate is issued by Atlantic Yachting if all paperwork is in order. It is valid for 6 months and can be used immediately after course completion. All relevant paperwork and applications will be sent to SAMSA Pretoria where the permanent licence will be issued. The permanent licence is forwarded from SAMSA Pretoria to the SAMSA office where you completed your exam. Atlantic Yachting will contact you once the permanent licence is available for collection at our offices. Please allow for at least 6 months for the permanent skipper’s licence to be issued.

PLEASE NOTE

  • The course will be presented in English and therefore participants should be able to understand and write in English.
  • The course will only run if there are five or more candidates signed up.
  • You need to be 16 years old for your ticket to be processed
