Please read below about the five steps to getting your certificate before installing the course. Please also check the minimum technical requirements shown in the Help section above to make sure the course will run on your computer.

Step 1: Training modules

There are seven modules, after which you will see a number of practice scenarios become available for you to gain further experience in a variety of situations.

The training modules will be installed on your computer which means they can be completed online or offline. However, you will need to be online at your first log in and after completing all the modules so that your progress is recorded to this website and you can access the Pre-exam Knowledge Check.

Course glossary

Throughout the course you can access the glossary if you need an explanation of any terminology. You will see words or phrases that are included in the glossary marked in italics as you work through the modules.

Step 2: Pre-exam knowledge check

The knowledge check below will be available for you when you have completed the training modules. There is no time limit for this knowledge check, but when you take your final exam there will be a 30-minute time limit for the written paper.

You need at least 70% to pass the pre-exam knowledge check to obtain your certificate for entrance to the final exam.

When you have passed your Pre-exam Knowledge Check, please go to the section below to download your certificate.

Remember, your final written exam will be closed book, so make sure you are fully familiar with the level of knowledge required here.

Step 3: Course completion certificate

When you have completed the training course and satisfactorily completed your pre-exam knowledge check you will be able to download a certificate here. Please take it with you to your exam at your training centre – it will be needed in order to complete your application for the Short Range Certificate.

Please note this is not your Short Range Certificate – you can only apply for that when you have passed the SRC exam at your training centre.

Step 4: End of course feedback
Step 5: Final exam

The final step is to take the exam at your training centre. Before you start the exam, you will be offered time to familiarise yourself with the radios used by your centre.

You should be allowed approximately 15 minutes for this and will be able to ask your examiner questions about how that specific type of radio works.

Use this time to make sure you understand the process for sending distress, urgency, safety and routine alerts on the radio you will use in the exam.
