Who is this course for?
Those planning on working as interior crew on Super Yachts where they will be required to prepare and serve food. Under British Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006), all Ships Cooks, catering staff, and others processing food in the galley are required to be suitably qualified in Food Hygiene or Food Safety in Catering (in other words all Steward/esses and Chefs).
This qualification, with City of Guilds as the examining body, meets the prescribed requirements. City and Guilds Level 2 Food Safety is listed in MCA (Maritime Coastguard Agency) MIN479.
This is not a maritime course per se, but a course for food handlers, which of course includes yacht Steward/esses and Chefs

Should you choose to do your course in Langebaan, you can make a booking with our office for our crew house at a rate of R200.00 per night per person. Arrangements to be done prior to arrival

National and some international flights land at Cape Town International Airport. The airport is approximately an hour’s drive from our office in Langebaan.

Ashanti to – Paarden Eiland (STCW) is easiest with the MyCiti bus. Schedule can be found on http://www.myciti.org.za/en/home/ it takes approximately 1 hour to get to Paarden Eiland from Ashanti Backpackers.
How does it work? You buy a MyCiti bus card for R50.00 from Ashanti. You then need to load travel time onto the card and this amounts to +- R150.00.
THE MORNING THE COURSE STARTS
The course starts promptly at 8:00am. Should you be late you will not be allowed to enter the course for the day. It is then your responsibility to arrange with the Academy an alternative date. This date should not interfere with any training schedule of Atlantic Yachting’s.
